From 17-20 November, a joint final event of the project "European integration and local development - towards successful strategies and good governance" for municipal representatives from two regions of Serbia - the South (Bosilegrad, Bujanovac, Medvedja, Presevo, Surdulica, Trgoviste, Vladicin Han and Vranje) and the South Banat District (Alibunar, Bela Crkva, Kovacica, Kovin, Opovo, Pancevo, Plandište and Vrsac) took place at the hotel "Continental" in Belgrade. These representatives had previously attended separate cycles of seminars that are aimed at strengthening the capacities of decision makers at the local level.
As part of this multi-day event, a series of activities was organized. Namely, the first day was dedicated to the signing of the "Protocol on regional cooperation and development of cities and municipalities of the Southern Banat", which was created by the group of participants from this region. The following day, the representatives of the municipalities of South Banat district took part in a one-day study visit to Indjija organized by the municipal Agency for economic development. There the participants had an opportunity to become familiar with the modern management systems applied by the municipal administration. Also, the participants met with several local investors and heard their reasons for investing in Indjija and perceptions regarding the necessary elements for creating a positive investment climate at the local level. On the same day, a one-day training seminar for the group from southern Serbia entitled "Public policy and communication with citizens" was organized and it was carried out by certified NDI trainers. The final two days of the event were dedicated to the topic of energy efficiency. The participants from both groups got to hear from eminent speakers about developing projects in the field of renewable energy sources and discuss the possibilities for financing such projects on local and regional levels. The event was concluded with the awarding of the BPFE certificates of attendance to the participants from the Banat region for successfully completing the cycle of seminars as part of the project "European integration and local development - towards successful strategies and good governance".
This project was implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government of the Republic of Serbia and with the financial support of UNDEF (through the UNDP office in Belgrade). The two-day seminar on energy efficiency was financially supported by the GTZ.
