In partnership with the Robert Bosch Foundation, the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence organized a conference in Berlin entitled “Serbia and the European Union: Which Way Forward?” on 9 March 2012. The conference was supported by Foreign and Commonwealth Office funds through the British Embassy in Belgrade.
Upon being granted the status of candidate for EU membership, Serbia faces the significant process of negotiations, entailing further far-reaching reforms in all sectors. We believe that this process requires a continuous political dialogue will all key partners within the EU. The conference was an opportunity for opening a debate on the relevance of the European integration process for Serbia’s democratic development in three areas: strengthening political institutions, sustainable economic development, and neighborly cooperation within the region.
With the participation of over 80 interested diplomats, representatives of the Government and Parliament, business, academia, civil society, and the media, the conference presented the current state of approaching the EU in Serbia, emphasizing the role of Germany for both Serbia and the region.
